American Recovery and Reinvestment???

Check out the new U.S. “stimulus” package that passed through Congress by clicking here. It’s not all 1100 pages of the bill, but thankfully the NYTimes Online gave decent-easy to follow summaries of the major areas. It should give you a good grasp of the bill.

Crazy what 787 billion U.S. dollars gets you. I agree with the Republicans that it is a huge spending bill, but I also agree with the Democrats that it has the potential to increase jobs, and prepare the United States for the future. Let’s hope the money and programs are implemented wisely. That will dictate how much bang for the buck we get.

Peace

I have loved reading your posts. I think there is potential in the package but there is a sickness in keeping these credit and banking systems alive. I believe it is time for a change to a non-money system but I doubt we will see such a thing in our lifetime. We are sadly alive in the time of cult and credit, consumerist culture.

    Thanks for the nice comments.

Fully agree with you on the credit and banking situations. People want the private sector to get us out of this situation, but fact is gov’t has to lead and the private sector has swallow pride and follow .

“Non-money” system sounds like Star Trek, which wouldn’t be so bad.

It is Star Trek that inspired my feelings on this. As a child I thought it was the perfect community. Sans all the aliens trying to kill us of course.

Funny thing was that the aliens were usually only reacting to what we did? I think the first generation Star Trek with Kirk and Spock were more like the Lone Ranger and Tanto exploring the Wild West of space. The Next Generation with Piccard, Riker, Data, Worf, etc. were much more “melting pot” like. The universe didn’t really agree – Cardacians vs. Bejorans; Ferengi were like the Wall Street brokers, but as far as the Planet Earth, there was an agreement amongst nations that sharing everything without pre-conditions was the best way forward. How else could anyone build something like the Starship Enterprise? I’m a bit of Star Trek fan.

    Peace
