The Art And Soul Of The Sword

This is a great article, complete with slideshow and video, about swordmaking in Japan. It’s a good roundup about the art of swordmaking and all that goes into making a sword. The sword was much more than just a tool to fight and kill with. It was an extension of the warrior that wielded it. The soul and essence of that warrior was enshrined within. So valuable were the swords that warriors would do whatever it took to keep them out of the hands of enemies, even carrying them into oblivion. Check out “Deadly Weapons Forged As Art” by Japan Times Online staff writer, Raju Thakrar.

Here is some great video I lifted from YouTube of Master Swordsmith Yoshindo Yoshihara and his pupils creating a masterpiece. Check it out.

Soundtrack by Tool – “Right In Two” (I don’t know that last piece, but very epic).
